Drawing is the artist’s exercise for life. It is a fundamental skill for all art, whatever the medium and something that artists should do regularly, just as musicians and athletes spend hours practicing each day. Sadly, not enough drawing practice happens and therefore finished paintings often show poor observation and drawing skills. Learn how to draw basic 3D forms which can then be applied to any subject –human form, architecture, plant form and all objects.

Capturing a likeness can be very satisfying and requires careful observation. Working in dry media e.g. pencil or charcoal and using a photograph as reference, learn how to draw a portrait or, if you have some experience, learn new approaches in techniques, mark making and composition.

CHRISTMAS CARD DESIGN

Create an original painting for a Christmas card for someone special. Have your image scanned and saved to disc for you to reproduce and send out to your family and friends. Plenty of inspiration and ideas will be available.
